What to see in Las Vegas – map

The iconic Las Vegas Strip

1. The Strip

The most famous boulevard in the world. This almost 7 km stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard is the beating heart of the city. It’s lined with the biggest and most extravagant hotels and casinos in the world. A walk along the Strip, especially at night when everything lights up, is an absolute must and an experience in itself.

Practical tip: The Strip is longer than it looks. Wear comfortable shoes and use the footbridges, escalators and free trams connecting some of the hotels (Bellagio-Aria-Park MGM or Mandalay Bay-Luxor-Excalibur, for example).

2. The fountains at the Bellagio hotel

One of the most iconic and most beautiful free attractions in Vegas. In front of the Bellagio hotel there’s a huge lake, where every 15–30 minutes more than a thousand water jets “dance” to the rhythm of famous songs. It’s a spectacular, romantic display.

Practical tip: The best view is straight from the pavement in front of the lake. For a different perspective, try the viewing terrace at the Eiffel Tower opposite or the restaurants in the Bellagio with a view.

Where to stay in Las Vegas

The Strip – for a first visit and maximum action

If you want to be in the middle of the action, staying right on the Strip is a must. You can choose from relatively affordable older hotels to absolute luxury. Try SAHARA Las Vegas for its great location and modern atmosphere, or Bellagio for iconic luxury.

Downtown (Fremont Street) – for a retro atmosphere and better prices

If you’re looking for a more authentic and more affordable Vegas, stay in Downtown. The hotels here are cheaper, the atmosphere is more relaxed and you’re in the heart of historic Vegas. A great choice is Golden Nugget or the modern Circa Resort & Casino (adults only).

Off-Strip – for calm and families

Hotels located a short way from the Strip often offer better prices, bigger rooms and a calmer atmosphere, which is ideal for families with children. You’re still only a short taxi or monorail ride from the centre. Consider Palms Casino Resort or The Orleans Hotel & Casino.

Practical tips for travellers

  • Drink plenty of water: You’re in the desert. Dehydration is a real danger, especially in summer when temperatures climb above 40 °C. Drink constantly and far more than you’re used to.
  • Watch out for resort fees: Almost all hotels on and around the Strip charge a compulsory “resort fee” (about 30–50 dollars per night extra), which isn’t included in the room price. Allow for it in your budget.
  • Comfortable shoes: Even though it doesn’t look like it, the distances between the hotels on the Strip are huge. You’ll walk kilometres. Comfortable shoes are absolutely essential.
  • Age: To enter casinos, drink alcohol and gamble you have to be 21. Always carry identification (your passport) with you.
  • Air conditioning: Indoor spaces (casinos, shops) are extremely air-conditioned. Carry a light jumper or hoodie with you, the temperature shock can be big.
  • Transport: On the Strip it’s best to walk or use the free trams and the monorail. For longer distances (Downtown, the airport) services like Uber/Lyft or a taxi are ideal.
  • Tipping (Tipping): It’s an important part of American culture. Tips are expected for restaurant staff (15–20 %), bartenders (1–2 dollars per drink), housekeepers and other staff.
